As and Artist, I feel the purest form of a printed image, is an etching

WHAT IS AN ETCHING?

It is a printing technique in which a metal plate is used. (brass, copper, etc.)

The art can be scratched directly onto the surface of the plate or, the metal

can be first covered with a acid- resistant material,

then worked with a etching needle, to create an intaglio image.

The exposed metal is eaten away, when the plate is placed into an acid bath.

This creates depressed lines, that are later hold the ink, needed for creating

a hand printed print, using an etching press.

This technique, was thought to have been developed by Daniel Hopper (1493-1536).

Etchings surpassed engraving as the most popular graphic art medium, during the active years of the

Rembrant & Hercules Segher in the 17th century.

It remains one of the most versatile & subtle printing techniques today.

There are two types of etching prints available below.

The first one, is a hand-pulled print, using a photo etched zinc plate, of several of my original pen & ink drawings.

The second one's, are hand pulled prints, that were printed from metal plates, that I directly hand-etched, the image, on zinc plates.

they were then inked and printed on an etching press.

Each image was hand-printed on acid-free paper by Kathy Carracio ( master printer), in her own stidio in New York City.

Her printers mark, is embossed on the bottom of each image.
